There’s a rich sense of continuity in the sets and of boundless energy bereft of egotism in the playing – The Irish Times (4-star Review)
Invigorating – The Washington Post
This is the best album of Irish instrumental music I’ve heard so far this year – Irish Echo (Earle Hitchner)
Ainneoin na stoirme (In spite of the storm), the fifth album from one of Irish traditional music’s leading exponents Téada, was released by Gael Linn during September 2013.

This album was recorded over a number of studio sessions in Dingle, Co. Kerry and marks a major new departure for Téada with the addition of TG4 Traditional Singer of the Year, Séamus Begley. Following a number of years of touring with Téada and as a duo with Oisín Mac Diarmada, the addition of Séamus’ legendary vocals to this recording brings a wealth of reflective moments alongside instrumental selections which see Téada at their strongest yet.

Launched to coincide with the 60th anniversary celebrations of Gael Linn, the album continues the Gael Linn association with a notable recording catalogue of Irish traditional music. Featuring a mix of rare older tunes and songs juxtaposed with a range of more recent tune compositions and the Marty Robbin’s song Saddle Tramp, the album provides an interesting collaboration of generations, influences and interpretation.
Founded in 2001, Téada has appeared at major music festivals throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Africa, Mexico, Israel and Australia. Highlights include a headlining appearance to an audience of 30,000 in Brittany, along with a recent performance at Harare International Festival of the Arts, Zimbabwe. 2014 will bring Téada’s first extensive tour in the Far East, performing at major theatres throughout Japan and Taiwan from March 15th – April 23rd.
Quotation from new album inlay notes:
Ireland has been greatly transformed since the fever of materialism became frozen and the readjustments that have been made are been deeply felt. But as our late Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney said: “We are not simply a credit rating or an economy but a history and a culture”. Our music, songs, language and culture have deep roots; they will withstand any storm.
Téada band members are Oisin Mac Diarmada, Sligo – Fiddle, Séamus Begley, Kerry – Vocals, Paul Finn, Laois – Button Accordion, Damien Stenson, Sligo – Flute, Sean McElwain, Monaghan – Guitar / Bouzouki, Tristan Rosenstock, Dublin – Bodhrán
